Cannon Mechanism *Back

Due to the barrel's unique design, F.R.E.D. is able to produce both a widely spread, high pressure stream of water and a more precise stream. This allows it to neutralize hot-spots as well as handle larger industrial fires by covering a sizable area without sacrificing power.

F.R.E.D. is equipped with a high power cannon able to dispense a variety of substances capable of extinguishing fires. From water, for more common fires, to varieties of foam and powder; F.R.E.D. is a highly versatile machine capable of dealing with a wide variety of dangerous situations. Once in the field, F.R.E.D. will be able to go into high risk areas and eliminate potential hot-spots that would otherwise create a very high risk for firefighters.

Robot rear wheels

The smaller wheels are designed to allow for quick maneuverability in tight places.

Robot rear wheels

F.R.E.D.'s wheels were designed for the rough terrain often found in fire and rescue situations. They are designed with a large diameter allowing them to move over rubble and debris. The larger rear wheels are additionally designed to provide a counter balance as F.R.E.D. lifts and removes potential obstacles.

Robot rescue claw

F.R.E.D.'s other grasping mechanism provides a means of pulling injured victims to safety. It is designed with enough power to drag  victims out from beneath large loads of rubble.

F.R.E.D. is equipped with two basic grasping mechanisms. The first

is designed to be highly corrosion and heat resistant, allowing it to remove many hazardous materials and dangerous obstacles. This will allow firefighters to operate safely in situations that would be too dangerous to approach otherwise.

Robot HAZMAT Claw

F.R.E.D. was recently presented at the B.E.S.T. Robotics EXPO along with the featured prototypes and designs of several other companies. At the presentation many of F.R.E.D.'s design features were demonstrated in an industrial fire and rescue simulation including three major tasks.

1. Safely evacuate a life-like mannikin from the area.

2. Remove vats of toxic chemicals from the building.

3. Quench as much of the fire as possible.

The following features were each designed with these sorts of tasks in mind.

Future Development

NO FEAR Robotics is not content with "good enough." This is why its employees spend hours on end planning and developing new and innovative designs, and why they never stop planning and developing, or testing.

F.R.E.D. (Fire and Rescue Electronic Droid) is designed using state of the art technology by award winning technicians and mechanics, taking into account the genuine needs of firefighters and other first responders. While still in development, F.R.E.D. will be able to take sensors into dangerous areas allowing firefighters to better assess the situation. It will be capable of sensing any hazardous chemicals or other potential threats before sending anyone in. Our goal is to assist firefighters in saving lives, without needing to endanger them.

F.R.E.D.

Since it's first presentation at the B.E.S.T. Robotics EXPO, F.R.E.D. has evolved greatly. It's cannon has been redesigned for a greater, more powerful stream of water, foam, or which ever other material required.

These pictures represent some of the recent CAD models made of this new cannon.

F.R.E.D.'s original rescue mechanism was largely imprecise and would risk further injuring victims in the way it failed to provide support.

The previous "claw" has been replaced by a high dexterity cradle capable of giving support and protection to rescued fire victims. It is designed to be highly stable, preventing unnecessary movement that would have the potential to cause further injury.

The hazardous materials claw, designed for removing obstacles and toxic chemicals has been redesigned. The original model required far too much precision for it to be efficient or safe for long term use.

The new design allows F.R.E.D. to more quickly remove toxic, and flammable chemicals. It is designed with greater simplicity while refusing to sacrifice efficiency or functionality.
